These tools do one job, comment-to-DM and DM automation on Instagram, with generous free plans and flat pricing that costs less than ManyChat at higher volumes. Comment-to-DM works best on Reels and posts that rank in Instagram search, where new people keep finding them weeks after you post.

LinkDM: best free ManyChat alternative

LinkDM’s free plan covers one Instagram account and 1,000 DMs a month, with comment-to-DM, story automations and inbox starters. That is 40 times ManyChat’s free contact allowance for a typical link-delivery funnel.

Pro costs $19 a month, or $182 a year, for 3 accounts and 25,000 DMs. LinkDM is a Meta Business Partner and says it uses only the official Instagram APIs. It works with Instagram and Facebook only.

InstantDM: cheapest paid Instagram option

InstantDM’s free plan allows 500 DM automations a month, 5 post automations and AI comment replies. Paid plans start at $9.99 a month billed yearly, and prices can be shown in rupees.

Paid plans add Facebook, and multi-account plans suit agencies. InstantDM shows a Meta Business Partner badge and says it is built on Meta’s official API.

CreatorFlow: flat pricing without contact counts

CreatorFlow charges a flat fee instead of counting contacts. The free plan covers one account and 500 DMs a month with unlimited automations. Pro costs $15 a month ($12 billed yearly) for 2 accounts and 5,000 DMs.

It is Instagram only and lists itself as a Meta Tech Provider using Instagram’s official Graph API.

Inrō: Instagram automation with a built-in CRM

Inrō suits creators and brands, especially in Europe, who want a CRM and AI agent next to their Instagram automations. The free plan allows 100 activated contacts a month and 3 active automations, and Pro starts at €12.99 a month, priced by activated contacts.

However, the learning curve can be steeper than ManyChat. Therefore, if you’re willing to invest time in learning a new tool, Chatfuel could be a good place to switch.

ManyChat vs Chatfuel

Chatfuel’s Business plan costs $18 to $20 a month for Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger with AI credits included. ManyChat Pro costs $29 to $39 a month for 2,500 Active Contacts and up to 3 channels, while Chatfuel sets its own contact limits per plan.

Chatfuel wins on price and WhatsApp. ManyChat wins on Instagram flows, Telegram support and a free plan to start on.

Wati: best for WhatsApp-first businesses

Wati is built around the official WhatsApp Business API, with broadcasts, a shared team inbox and automation. Instagram, Messenger, TikTok DMs and a web widget can join the same inbox, though Growth connects only one channel and Instagram automation starts on Pro.

There is no free plan, only a 7-day trial. Growth costs $69 a month ($59 billed yearly), Pro $149 ($119), and Business $349 ($279), with WhatsApp’s per-message fees on top. In India, Growth costs ₹2,999 a month.

respond.io: best for multichannel teams

respond.io connects Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, TikTok, Telegram, Viber, LINE, WeChat, website chat, email and SMS in one inbox. It suits sales and support teams, and it is overkill for a solo creator.

Starter costs $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) for 1,000 monthly active contacts and 5 users. There is a 7-day trial and no free plan.

Landbot’s visual builder makes it incredibly easy to create complex conversational flows without coding. Also, it is specifically designed for customer support and conversations. It can be practically more useful than Manychat for customer queries.

Landbot has no Instagram or TikTok channel, so it doesn’t replace ManyChat’s core Instagram use case.

However, ease of use sometimes comes at the cost of advanced customization. While Landbot offers more integrations than ManyChat, you might find it frustrating to ask for more control over the bot’s behavior.

Intercom is particularly valuable for SaaS companies or businesses with a strong focus on customer support.

Tidio: The All-in-One Live Chat and Chatbot

There isn’t a maintained open-source tool for Instagram comment-to-DM funnels. The older Botpress v12 is open source under AGPL, but its last release was in April 2025 and it has no Instagram support.

Chatwoot is the strongest open-source option. It is MIT-licensed, actively maintained and has a native Instagram DM channel, though self-hosting needs your own Meta app and app review. It works as a support inbox, not a funnel builder. Typebot is source-available rather than open source and covers web and WhatsApp.

Meta API rules that keep your account safe

Every tool here sends messages through Meta’s platform, and Meta’s rules apply no matter which tool you pick. A tool that runs on the official API follows them by design.

• 24-hour window: a business can reply to an Instagram user within 24 hours of their last message.
• Human agent tag: a person, not an automation, can reply up to 7 days after the user’s message.
• Private replies: one DM per comment, sent within 7 days of the comment. Once the user replies, the 24-hour window applies.
